When he plays the instrument it sounds like it is from outer space.

This fascinating design was done by a man named Gorkem Sen.  Some people read others get involved with charities and play sports and in his free time this guy makes awesome instruments.  I have never seen anything like this before.  Here is some information about it how it works:

Yaybahar is an electric-free, totally acoustic instrument. The vibrations from the strings are transmitted via the coiled springs to the frame drums. These vibrations are turned into sound by the membranes which echo back and forth on the coiled springs. This results in an unique listening experience with an hypnotic surround sound.

Have you heard anything similar or have you seen instruments like this anywhere?

By the way the person playing the instrument here has an interesting comment that might surprise a few people:

What you hear in this performance is captured in realtime without any additional effects and with no post audio processing.

Also the comments on the video thread are very spirited.  Some are even suggesting it is from aliens.  That might sound laughable but if nothing else the sound is extremely different.
