did they finally figure out what this thing is?

Archaeologists have at last solved the mystery of the ancient Greek device…or have they? There have been all kinds of speculation about the “Antikythera Mechanism”.  There have been rumors that is was some kind of ancient computer to even an alien device of some sort.  Now, archaeologists have made a breakthrough:

Archaeologists long suspected that the device was connected to astronomy, but most of the writing on the instrument was indecipherable, which left some question. But a thorough, decade long effort using high-tech scanning methods has revealed much more of the text on the instrument.

Pretty cool right?  And some are actually saying this was the first computer ever.  There are some memes floating around the interwebs trying to make an allusion to a Greek statue and this device where the person seems to be using a laptop.
