In 1977 Earth received a mysterious signal. An astronomer named Jeremy Ehman was using a large telescope in the hopes of picking up radio waves from other civilizations. He was looking in the wavelength that would be similar to hydrogen. Given that this might be the most abundant element in the universe that would make sense. Apparently he saw a pattern in his data set that he circled and labled it very particularly. He straight up wrote “wow” as he thought he found something.
Just a note, where he discovered this was at the Big Ear Radio Observatory, and it didn’t come in the form of a traditional message.
He and many others can’t find it again, even when looking 50 times or more. hence, many concluded that it was a fluke or reflected from Earth somehow but they still don’t know for sure.
