The internet has changed the world forever.  One of the first commercial services was Prodigy and then of course AOL with it’s trademark dial tone.  Now we are well into mobile adoption and social media, and 3D printing has emerged as an extremely disruptive technology.  We have surpassed making cool figurines at home to the point where metal parts are being 3D printed with incredible accuracy and traditional manufacturing is being disrupted!  Here is one article that actually predicts the impact of 3D printing will surpass the internet.  That is an extremely bold statement and one that is thought provoking.
