
This would be a first..
They are going to be using an array of telescopes in their attempt. Sure, we have some cool radio pics of black holes that is the result of a lot of work from astronomers and engineers analyzing data and building telescopes such as The Hubble and ESO. However, an actual event horizon has never been seen. Will they be successful or will they fail? Here is a bit more on what THEY are trying to do:
A network of nine radio telescopes, dotted around the globe, is set to take the first ever picture of a black hole’s event horizon in 2017.
The project, called the Event Horizon Telescope, has completed most of its technical preparations as well as extensive theoretical calculations.
It will focus on Sagittarius A*, the black hole at the Milky Way’s centre.
