The S.E.T.I. program detected a mysterious sound in the 1970s and it is still debated to this day.  Just a refresher S.E.T.I. stands for search for extraterrestrial intelligence.  In the 1970s they got the idea that the most effective way to search for aliens may be to send signals into space and listen for them at the same time.  And in 1977 one of their scientists picked something up called the “wow signal”. Here is a bit more about what happened:

Wow Signal As described by wiki: The Wow! signal was a strong narrowband radio signal detected by Jerry R. Ehman on August 15, 1977, while working on a SETI project at the Big Ear radio telescope of The Ohio State University then located at Ohio Wesleyan University’s Perkins Observatory, Delaware, Ohio.
