this is AWESOME
Before this we have only speculated on such formations. And finally they have caught one in action! This is incredible as astronomers have located an early forming solar system that can give us incredible insight:
A remarkable young stellar system has been found that could upend our theories of how quickly planets form. By observing a disk of material around a star 325 light-years away, astronomers have seen a close-up view of a star still forming with at least one planet close by for the first time.
The astronomers used the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) in Chile to study this star, called HD 100546.
What will this tell us about the formations of other solar systems in the universe? And will this help us in the spotting of exoplanets?
Let’s check out a video of an early solar system on page 2
