this is AMAZING…

For the first time EVER astronomers found an incredible property of supernovas.  Most astronomy fans have heard of the term.  It is likely caused from a star that burns out and collapses in on itself then making a super external show called a supernova.  However, even though we have seen them and even predicted them, the shockwaves have not been seen until now!  Here is what the team saw:

The shockwave generated by the explosion of an ageing giant star has been observed by an international team of astronomers.

The discovery, accepted for publishing in the Astrophysical Journal, will help scientists understand the life cycle of stars, said study co-author Brad Tucker of the Australian National University.

Is that awesome or what!  Apparently this has physics implications as well besides the neat factor!
