Here is a bit more information on these fascinating planets:
WASP-47, also known as 2MASS J22044873-1201079, is a G-type main sequence star, slightly smaller and cooler than our Sun at a distance of 652 light-years.
One of the newfound exoplanets, WASP-47d, is about the size of Neptune and orbits the star in about 9 days.
The one thing however that is especially interesting is that “hot Jupiter” type planets are not understood in how they can orbit stars this closely!
In a nutshell it proves we do not fully understand planet formation. This should give us a lot of insight.
Stay tuned for more updates on this double planet system as well as updates about kepler 452-b which is the most Earth-like exoplanet they have ever found.
