Astronomers Want to Terraform Jupiter

Is this a good idea?

Astronomers have actually discussed “terraforming” planets in our solar system.  Have you heard of that definition?  That means trying to manipulate a planetery environment so that life could flourish and make it more like earth.  Would this actually work?

So just what would it take to terraform Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system?

In fact, it might even be easier than terraforming Mars or Venus, as long as you keep a steady flow of gas to the Moon replenishing the constantly escaping atmosphere.

Jupiter is a ball of hydrogen and helium, which compresses these gasses to almost starlike temperatures and pressures. Fine, Jupiter is the absolute worst. It makes traveling to Venus look like a spa visit.

Well this is an interesting discussion and there are people on both sides of this discussion.

They explain a little bit more on how this could theoretically work.  Of course as a gas giant, it seems very outlandish, at least compared to a rocky surface:

Jupiter does have something we can work with. Astronomers think below the septillions tons of hydrogen and gas, there’s actually a rocky core. The mass of the core is still a mystery, but recent computer simulations put it at somewhere between 7 and 45 times the mass of the Earth, complete with plenty of water ices and other chemicals you might require on an Earthlike planet.

Furthermore, this core may contain similar constituents as the internal structure of Earth. This means a central core of iron and nickel, surrounded by liquid metal, surrounded by rock.

Ok that sounds like more of a possibility.  But seriously, how are you going to equip a probe to navigate the atmosphere and actually arrive at the rockier portion?

Interesting, yes.  However it might make more sense to start with something closer and more stable say like…the moon.

Mars I can understand. It’s the next one out, easy to get to, solid like earth, and many other things. But a gas giant like Jupiter? Just.. I just don’t see it happening.

Even if you could float in a cloud city if you can’t shield people from the deadly radiation that the planet gives off, everyone would receive a lethal dose in 10 minutes

And i have a friend who knows a lot of important people in the deep web and project lucifer is actually way ahead of what is publicly anounced. So I have been told. But if neptune was already ignited then we wouldnt know becase of how its lined up in orbit with us and the sun im pretty sure. We will all die if its ignited.

I don’t think that’s a good idea at all. Even if we could remove the gas I would think changing the mass that much would cause some issues with the rest of the solar system wouldn’t it? I really think by the time we get to the kind of technology he is talking about we won’t need to terraform.

The best way to Terraform any planet in the solar system is to tell the United States government that it has resources such as oil, ores, or rare earth metals. Within a decade we will have exported freedom and democracy to the planets with extreme discretion. We will fund infrastructure and misplace trillions of dollars once there….

Terraform a gas giant……. right……… it traps enough radiation in its magnetic field to kill any astronaut within minutes inside their space craft. If you can get past that you’ll have star grade gravitation pull that’ll cause jupiter to eat you. with that in mind once you reach a suitable pressure how do you stop falling. if you manage to stop falling how do you deal with thousand mile an hour winds that make earth’s hurricane’s look like a fart on mars? simple you dont try to terraform a gas giant. it’ll win

They can’t make it rain when we need it but they can change the atmosphere of a whole planet? You guys are smoking some real strong$#%&!@*

p.s.you can’t terraform a planet with no solid ground at a normal atmospheric pressure., and any astronomer that’s worth their salt knows this, so I gotta call b.s.

We haven’t even reached mars and already people are planning to rape Jupiter?!? Am I the only person that sees this as blind ignorance?

Idiotic – high radiation, high gravity, massive poisonous atmosphere and NO SOLID PLANETARY SURFACE. only a 30,000 mile deep ocean of liquid hydrogen.

You couldn’t terra form Jupiter even if we could get past low earth orbit, it’s only made up of gas, says NASA. But all they do is lie. So basically terra forming Jupiter is impossible

I think we shouldnt terraform any planet until we fix our first, because if we can’t fix the damage we have caused to our own planet then how can we terraform another ?
