One of the commenters “Bubblytubebob” talks about a related device he made:
I have boiled the glycol right out of my home made solar thermal solar collectors.Thank goodness my resevour had the capacity for the liquid. I shut my pump down one day and forgot to turn it on the next day and by 10:00 AM I got a phone call from my panicking wife.”It’s going to over flow” I built my panels from 3/4″ refrigeration soft copper , Aluminum Sofit with 6″ grooves, Foil Bubble wrap, Rocksal mildew resistant Insulation, and covered it with corrugated sun tuff polycarbonate. That gave me 12 4ft X 8ft panels at the cost of $2,600.00. That heats my in-floor Pex-pipe heating and my domestic hot water and i live where it can dip below minus 40 F at night. My floorspace is 640 sq ft. I figured each 6 panels equivalent to 250 gal tank of oil. My payback took 2 years and it’s been running for 10 years with no problems yet. Free heat is the best heat.
Have you seen any devices like this or attempted to build something similar before?
