Here is a simple list of items and steps from the video below:
- 1.5 metres of 25 gauge magnet wire
- One AA battery
- Wrap the coil around the battery leaving about 4 centimeters of wire on each side
- Carefully slide the coil off of the battery
- Loop the ends of the coil around each side twice exactly opposite from each other. This is important as the ends will act as a rotor
- If the wire is coated, remove a little bit of the coating on each end with and paper
- 2 thin pieces of bendable metal for brackets and cut 5cm x 1cm pieces
- Fold them each in the center and make a small hole near the end of each metal bracket with a tack or small nail
- Get a small disc shaped magnet
- Center the magnet on a small piece of wood and place the brackets down on each side of the magnet with a little bit of space, using thumbtacks
- Secure pieces of wire to each bracket with metal touching metal
- Slide the coil into the brackets aligned straight and slide the magnet into place under the coil
- attach the wires from the brackets to the AA battery and watch it run!
