Retro reflective projection technology uses a computer, a video camera, and a projector to shine background images on the front of the subject’s clothing to create the illusion of invisibility.  What makes the technology unique is a fabric covered in glass beads spanning only 50 microns wide.  This acts as kind of a movie screen where you are watching the projection of what is actually behind the person.

Computing costs as well as that of the material has come down dramatically in recent years opening the way for more applications.  Some of the possiblilities and uses include:

• Coating the surface of almost any object making it able to transmit information like a screen

• Dr. Tachi states an entirely new way of interacting with computers in general could result from this tech

• Building navigation systems for all kinds of transportation mechanisms

• It could also make walls seemingly transparent making information sharing much easier

This invention is pretty radical and am curious to see how this unfolds..
