What did they discover?

Enormous telescopes have made this type of study possible.  What was once theory has now been proven. Black holes are obviously not completely understood but there have been theories that magnetic fields may play a part in their formation and appetite!

For the first time, astronomers have detected evidence of magnetic fields near Sagittarius A*, the black hole at the centre of the Milky Way, taking the study of black hole growth from theoretical expectation to empirical fact.
