Should We Be Worried About This Asteroid?

Here are some comments about the video reflecting certain thoughts if this is based on real astronomical calculations or not:

Commenter CM had this to say:

I dunno dude… Dec. 21, 2012 thing was pretty much a hoax created by the Internet, there’s priests saying that Sept. 23-24, 2015 will be Doomsday. The government is even trying to keep this info away from the public. I think this asteroid thing is legit. I dunno how it’s legit, because NASA says they don’t pick up anything on their radars, but $%&* them xD everything they say is a lie.

Commenter Bruce had this to say in reply:

An asteriod enough to annilihate an entire civilization would hit earth every million years, and in some few years, an asteriod enough to cause some local damage would hit earth but theoretically a large asteriod could just bow up en entire civilization, as in your video, an asteriod that can wipe out puerto rico can also sent giant waves to the beach of Miami or to the Mexican Coast, it is possible to use nuclear weapons to destroy asteriods, their fragments are still there but at least small enough not to cause big damage, still asteriod killing an entire civilization is possible just ask the dinosaurs.

Let’s hope this is just incorrect.  Seriously!  What do you think?

I was under the impression this page was about science, not $#%&!@*ty doomsday predictions. Do the mods of this page have any experience in science? As someone who does research in astronomy, I would have heard about such an asteroid by now. Something that would hit us in just a few months would be tracked by thousands of amateur astronomers by now, and no force on Earth could keep information like that from the public.

Well I know of one that supposed to be entering the atmosphere some point in the future I don’t know when though

They start false rumors so they can get people aware of “something”, but lead a false expectation. We’re going to find out its not a meteor at all. Check comments from the Vatican..

Your talking about Apophus Actually it doesnt enter our atmosphere it comes very close for its size and in the 2029 earth flyby if it enters a specific part in space called a keyhole it has a greater chance to being on a collison course 7 years after its first p$#%&!@*ing

Yea yea yea, they said the same thing with w2k, and 2012. And wouldn’t you know it? We are still here, hating and killing each other … So….. Ima call bull$#%&!@* and if it be real, then I hope it takes out any evidence of us so the next species who digs our bones out of the ground won know how horrible the human race was to one another

NASA’s JPL has been monitoring near earth objects with astounding accuracy for a long time…. Nothing inbound or even close to the earth will come around for another couple hundred years. And even then, it will just be as close as the moon. Fear mongers!

I don’t believe anything any religious pastor or preacher says about an Armageddon date because you can’t predict and say for sure when exactly the Rapture or doomsday as it says in the book of Revelation will happen. Will the Earth eventually get hit with an asteroid? Of course. Look at history and take note of when major asteroid$#%&!@* and you’ll see a pattern. Are we due for one? Yes, but probably not for about another couple hundred or thousand years. NASA creating these Asteroid awareness things and an asteroid protection plan is something obvious nasa should be doing seeing as they are a space agency meant to monitor space and its dangers. An asteroid is a space danger. So it makes sense they would start way ahead of a known major asteroid strike to prep and plan as better technology to fend off an asteroid comes around
