The Search For “Earth’s Twin” Continues

What technique are they using?

And apparently this could be the answer to finding extraterrestrials…seriously.  There has been a lot of talk about exoplanets in that they may be a good area in general to focus on in the search for extraterrestrials.  The atmospheres and potential similarities to our planet make them a prescreened sample that may make sense to examine.  And astronomers are using an interesting technique to find “Earth’s Twin”:

Among the methods astronomers have used to discover extra solar planets, the most successful is a technique called transit photometry. It measures changes in a star’s brightness caused when a planet crosses in front of its star along our line of sight.

Let’s find out what they have found so far using photometry in the video on page 2
