Who even knew about this?
Apparently 434,738 people participated in this historic experiment. It is kind of like sending a message in a bottle in the ocean…except the biggest ocean of space. There were also some other “questionable details” in regards to this mission!
The New Horizons probe is carrying a CD-ROM with the names of 434,738 people who participated in a “Send Your Name to Pluto” campaign. It’s also carrying a portion of the ashes of Clyde Tombaugh, who discovered Pluto in 1930.
That is quite a way to honor someone…by sending them out to Pluto! Not too many people can say they have had that happen 😉
Just a note it was in the year 1974 that S.E.T.I. was very active.
