They Spotted An Unusual Pulsating Star In This Nebula

You might not believe how bright this thing is..

This particular star was spotted in our own Milky Way. Even though it is about 6,500 light years from earth that is relatively close in cosmic terms. It is an unusual class of star called a Cepheid variable. They are so bright that stars like this actually help us measure other distances in the universe. The nebula where it resides is very “dusty” and it send out huge pulses of blue light.

Believe it or not it was actually first observed in the 1800s.
