This stuff is bizarre and has only been around in the last 50 years.

Ferrofluid was invented in 1962 by NASA.  It becomes extremely magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field.  So, this home experimenter shows what happens when you put a neodymium magnet in a bunch of this stuff.  Neodymium magnets are some of the most powerful in the world.

Note: Do not try this at home without the supervision of a professional.  Use the proper protective equipment whenever conducting an experiment like this.
