The last year has been one of NASA’s most insane ever. There was a lot of cool pics and new info that came in over the last ten years. One fascinating bit of info is regarding Vesta and Ceres:
Dawn, the speedy ion-drive spacecraft, left Earth in 2007 bound for Vesta and Ceres in the Asteroid Belt. These are no ordinary asteroids. Scientists see them as tiny, still born planets. They sent Dawn out to fly around them, map them, and look for evidence that will transport them to very early days of our solar system.
Btw there had been a debate for a while if Ceres was a moon or dwarf planet. Here is the latest on that.
Official designation is now “Dwarf Planet” status. To be a moon means it must be orbiting a primary that is either a full or dwarf planet. If also a dwarf, the one whose common orbital center is furthest is the moon.
Can you guess what they found on this latest mission?
Let’s check out a video with footage of these unusual formations on page 2
