It is thought that dark energy is the force that causes the universe to expand although scientists aren’t exactly sure how…. and if this were the case it would mean that dark energy is doubling in some way as the universe is expanding exponentially and since scientists abide by the law of conservation of mass and energy it can only be thought that dark matter is turning into dark energy like some of the mass from two hydrogen atoms fusing in the sun turns into energy….. In simple terms the universe is expanding at an ever increasing rate expansion is caused by dark energy so dark energy is increasing meaning that by laws of conservation dark matter is being converted to dark energy… Hope this helps
