Astronomers Discover a “Wind Nebula” That…

They have never seen anything like it before.  Apparently they found a wind nebula around the most powerful magnet they have ever spotted in the universe.  What does that mean exactly?  Here is how they describe it:

A massive cloud of high-energy particles called a wind nebula has been spotted encircling an incredibly rare ultra-magnetic neutron star – or magnetar – for the first time.

This is a pretty big deal, because of the 2,600 or so neutron stars astronomers have found to date, only 29 have been classified as magnetars, and until now, none have ever been found wrapped in a nebula.

We seem to be hearing more and more about neutron stars lately.  Many think they are responsible for the FRBs (fast radio bursts) that are making so much buzz on the internet.

Is that too bizarre ow what?

Let’s find out more about this mysterious super magnet on page 2
