Astronomers Spot a Real-Life “Death Star” Wrecking a Planet

whoa!

This sounds like fiction however astronomers are watching a white dwarf 570 light-years from Earth in action.  Its name (very technical haha) is (WD 1145+017) and astronomers witnessed a minor planet in orbit disintegrating.  This is absolutely mind boggling as we think of science fiction movies when it comes to things like this.  Here is a bit more on the story:

The real-life “Death Star” that astronomers recently caught in the act of destroying a planet is continuing to disintegrate nearby orbiting objects, researchers say.

This finding could shed light on how dead stars rip apart their planetary systems — a phenomenon that could happen in Earth’s solar system billions of years from now, scientists added.

Are you blown away?

Let’s find out more about this death star and what its doing on page 2

In about 5,000,000,000 years. Of course the inner planets will have been long engulfed and devoured at least 4,000,000,000 years prior to this happening.
