Hendo Hoverboard Coverage Part 2 – Tony Hawk Rides One

This is pretty cool as he spins around and actually goes up and down the ramp effortlessly.  And as usual the comments are quite spirited in the quest for the elusive real world hoverboard.  The inventor Greg Henderson reminds us that this is a prototype and explains the technology in a way that everyone can understand.

Of course, the ultimate is when it works on all surfaces, not just copper.  But just like any first generation product you have to start somewhere.  Do you feel that the blue light and “hovering” sound effects at to the coolness or would you rather have it move quietly?  Tony Hawk states that he thought it would be obvious that the other video was a prank and didn’t mean to confuse some folks.

This wikipedia excerpt explains the law of physics that currently powers this version

Lenz’s law /ˈlɛnts/ is a common way of understanding how electromagnetic circuits obey Newton’s third law and the conservation of energy. Lenz’s law is named after Heinrich Lenz, and it says: If an induced current flows, its direction is always such that it will oppose the change which produced it.
