Potential “Super Earth” At The Edge Of The Solar System Still Debated – Part 2

Is this thing closer or farther than they think?

It is still very early and there are opinions from both sides.  Just a few days ago the internet was buzzing (and still is) with stories of a super-earth like formation potentially at the edge of our solar system.  This story was cited in forbes.com and other major publications.  Originally astronomers thought that whatever they detected was a few light years away because it was in the direction of Alpha Centaurai.  However that turned out to be a coincidence and they now think it is much closer.

Skeptics have come in from astronomers to science fans alike.  No one knows for sure but here are the latest teams of skeptics:

Two separate teams of researchers (one from Mexico, the other Sweden), have incited skepticism among the astronomy community by posting papers on the preprint server arXiv each describing a different large object they observed in the outer edges of the solar system. Both teams made their observations after reviewing data from ALMA—a cluster of radio dishes in the Chilean mountains.

Let’s find out specifically what they think this formation is or isn’t on page 2
