Quantum Levitation With Frozen Disc..Absolutely Awesome

The commenters have some good questions and one guy below has a great answer.

Commenter RC says:

One question… didn’t they say that was nitrogen…? It’s nitrogen that think that like FREEZES YOUR HAND OFF. Like, I know you can get small amounts on your skin and it just hurts, but he’s got his hands all over it…

Commenter Aolorn replies:

Handling liquid nitrogen? I think it’s called the Leidenfrost effect. If the difference of temperature between solid object and liquid is high enough, vapour layer which prevents direct contact and acts like an insulator is formed. The same effect like when you pour water on very hot surface- the water droplets will not spill to form a puddle but rather jump and skittle around violently instead. Same applies here. It will freeze your hand off after some time, but very brief contact should not hurt you. PS: make sure your hands are completely dry when handling extremely cold materials, you really don’t want to know what can happen if your hands are wet.

We hope you enjoy the video.
