What happened here 12,000 yrs ago?

Some new and out there models are examined as this Turkish discovery remains a mystery.  This unusual place was only discovered in the 1990s and was covered in sand.  Many archaeologists say it was a group of hunter gatherers who got together and said hey lets build this awesome thing.  The only issue with that theory is why and also where did they get the tools to do it?

SO the theories are all over the place and some new and BIZARRE yet interesting notions on how and why this thing came to be have been brought up.
