They Went Deeper In Space Than The Hubble and Found…

astronomers were surprised…

Wow…In this particular region of space the telescope at ESO has actually gone deeper than the Hubble.  Here is a bit more from the story:

The MUSE instrument on ESO’s Very Large Telescope in Chile has given astronomers the best ever three-dimensional view of the deep Universe. After staring at the Hubble Deep Field South region for a total of 27 hours the new observations reveal the distances, motions and other properties of far more galaxies than ever before in this tiny piece of the sky. The new observations are allowing astronomers to go beyond the Hubble Deep Field and reveal a host of previously unseen objects.

That is insane.  Most of us think of the hubble space telescope but more powerful telescopes keep being built.

And in a related story the SETI program has received an investment of $100 million from a Russian billionaire.  The observations of undiscovered areas of space should give them a strong list of places to examine.  And the recent detection of the FRB fast radio burst is from a galaxy Messier that they only recently spotted with one of the space telescopes.

Let’s see what they observed in the video on page 2
