This Is So Fast It Can Flash 90 Billion Times Per Second

How can this possible?

Quantum computing may be the future and this is a speedy breakthrough in using light.  In fact it was actually a new speed record for this type of application. Companies like Intel and D-Wave Systems have poured a ton of money and resources into this area.  Most microprocessors compute on a series of states of 0 or 1. Quantum computing uses something called q-bits which can handle multiple scenarios.  Can you get your mind around that?  Pretty trippy:

Researchers at Duke University, however, are getting closer to creating this kind of a light source. A team from the Pratt School of Engineering was able to push semiconductor quantum dots to emit light at over 90 gigahertz.

This is somewhat reminiscent of the first Terminator movie.
