Watch what this thing does when put up against different types of metal.

Neodymium magnets are very powerful and used in a lot of major industrial applications.  They also make for pretty awesome experiments like this one.  Here is a brief intro from the experimenter who made the video:

A powerful, yet dangerous magnet that can do amazing tricks. I’ve tried to make some original tricks in this video instead of just showing how much this magnet can lift (which is around 200 kg under optimal conditions).

JUST A NOTE:  These magnets are extremely powerful and don’t try this without the supervision of a professional!

And here is kind of  a cool factoid these types of magnets weren’t even developed until the 1970s – 1980s.
