it WRECKS the soda can…
Using simple physics propels this ball to insane speeds. What do you think would happen to a soda can that got hit with a ping pong ball going almost as fast as the speed of sound? Well lucky for us these two adventurous experimenters decided to find out. Note the ping pong ball sustains some damage as well as they launch this thing.
The speed of sound is:

I shot a full can of root beer once with a very large caliber rifle. Remember that vibrating platform experiment in school? Yeah, but A LOT faster. Bottom of can embedded about 1/2″ into hard dirt. The top of the can was found about 20′ away and everything in between was shredded into little strips
