What Exactly is “Present Time”?

Can we even quantify this?

In the 4 dimensions we seem to perceive, are we even capable of describing NOW?  There are all sorts of discussions on time travel into the future and into the past.  Most of us think of that concept with someone wearing a vest hopping into a sports car 😉  You may know him as Marty McFly.  And there is a best selling book about “NOW” which you may have heard about called The Power of Now.  However, do we or will we ever be able to understand what the present is?

The comments on this particular video are very spirited and all over the place.  That is often par for the course in regards to more paradoxical and philosophical topics!

Here is one of the more inquisitive comments on the thread:

Another good experiment to demonstrate this is to quickly look at a mechanical clock. Look somewhere else and then quickly look over and stare at it. If you catch it just right then it will appear as though the second hand stays in place longer than a second. The reason for this is your brain can’t decide what to report during the transition so it doesn’t report anything until you stop moving your eyes, and so what you finally see is the second hand and that is what your brain reports for occurring in the past and so it looks as though it has been there longer than a second.

This is a cool drawing playing with 3 dimensions although a concept without video is difficult to display 4 dimensions beyond theory.
