With super telescopes like Hubble and the European Southern Observatory, astronomers have been able to detect things that were previously impossible.  Many exoplanets have now been spotted and this video lists the 10 that we think are most likely to have alien life.  Now of course, life could exist in other forms than we understand, just go to any desert or jungle on planet earth and you will see differing ecosystems.  Imagine on another planet?
