NASA Unveils Design for Warp Drive Spacecraft

Here is a bit more about this design idea:

With the help of artist Mark Rademaker, White has made a design of what such a vessel would look like.

The warp drive vehicle is called the IXS Enterprise and does bear more than a casual resemblance to its Star Trek namesake.

Of course, nobody is quite sure if making a warp bubble is actually possible, but NASA is investigating the matter via ongoing experiments.

commenter Aaran poses an interesting thought:

The real problem is at those speeds and without gravity. You might kill the occupants. Unless you strapped them into a concrete bed lol and even then you might end up with partial bio field interruptions into the cardiovascular system. Anything that puts pressure in the human breathing diaphragm affects the heart and how it functions.

I can’t wait to see this thing in action.  How many years away would this be?  Do you have any ideas?  if so feel free to comment!

Aaran, that’s a good point you bring up. Perhaps they would need to wear some sort of life-support on-demand suit (that only gave them what their individual bodies needed when their bodies needed it by constantly monitoring how they are biologically feeling – heart, lung, etc. issues resolved individually via the suit and ONLY as needed)… Its a thought anyway. I’m excited at the idea of long-range space exploration but of course WE would likely never see the benefits but perhaps out great-great-great grandchildren would. Its a risk I’d be willing to take.

If there’s no gravity, there’s no inertia. Aaron needs to review his science. With a slow build up of speed, the occupants would never feel the effects.
