This is an environmental mystery off the coast of Belize. Some have said this has nothing to do with the Mayans as they are a little ways away geographically. The mysteries are abound on what caused this thing!
The Blue Hole is a “karst- eroded sinkhole.” It was once a cave at the center of an underground tunnel complex whose ceiling collapsed. Some of the tunnels are thought to be linked right through to the mainland, though this has never been conclusively proved. Notable are the large population of sharks such as lemon, black tip, reef, hammerhead, and bull sharks.
Mysterious and legends always have been around the Belize Blue Hole. This was the entrance to Xibalba?. It’s the kind of underwater geology that inspires speculation about aliens creating geometrically perfect anomalies, mermaids and monsters living in darkness.
Here is a statement from one of the divers:
I explored the bottom of the Blue Hole perimeter (3,140 feet circumference). To do this I dove down twice, reaching the depth of 375′ feet which took 4 to 5 hours of diving each day.

This is an ordinary sinkhole that predates Mayan civilization by many many thousands of years. It formed during the ice age. When sea levels were much lower.

Go exploring then report back and tell us what’s down in the hole…..
Super underwater volcano maybe
A sink hole IN the ocean… Does anyone else see a problem with that? If a sink whole formed before it was under water ($#%&!@*uming it ever was) it would have filled with sediment by now. So, an explosion from man or meteor is the only logical choice. Sink holes can only be caused by a removal of water causing a hydraulic unbalance in loose soil from water drainage…water drainage does not occur…under water.
It could also be one of the openings through which waters burst out of during Noah’s flood.
Check out Hydroplate theory.
Yeah, hydroplate theory = creationist balderdash.
