NASA Tested a 3D-Printed Engine Part…And It Passed

it was a HYPERSONIC test..

You won’t believe the thrust on this thing when it fires up!  This is a milestone in terms of space travel potential and manufacturing efficiency.  On the heels of latest successful test, we will probably see reduced manufacturing costs and speed to market from NASA in many rocket engines.  Here is a brief intro on their results:

The test was carried out at NASA’s Langley Research Center, with the combustor being made by a process known as powder bed fusion (PBF). According to Gizmag, this is when “a layer of metal alloy powder is laid down by the printer and a laser or electron beam fuses areas of it by following a digital pattern.
